Kamala Das, an Indian Poet, is a unique figure in poetry. Being a confessional poet, the subjectivity or ‘I’ get prominence in her poetry. ‘I’ being the prime speaker, the language of Kamala Das’ is assertive and intense in nature. When we go through her poems, we feel shaken by her the burning fire of her language. One of the major features of confessional poetry is its unabated strength of its language. So this article tries to explicate her poems, its language and style. And how much the language intensified her subject matter. Indian English poetry originated from the quest of educated Indians to find a suitable medium for expression. Their English education provided them with sufficient knowledge on the world classics. The earlier efforts of imitating English poets produced many talents of immaculate qualities. Those who wrote poems in English were admired by everyone. Soon a number of poets started writing in English. For these poets English was the only language in which they could express their ideas. They used English as if it were their mother tongue. Her short stories were widely admired as they presented a girl in her teens in the most realistic way and in the true social and emotional perspective.
