This thesis analyses the relationship between the Fantastic and Hauntology in Nidhi Upadhyay’s novels I Hear You and That Night. The research studies how both novels reflect a sense of uncertainty, fear and the prevalence of the past using Jacques Derrida's idea of Hauntology and Tzvetan Todorov's theory of the Fantastic. The analysis mirrors how the supernatural elements in the novels serve the purpose of reflecting the deeper themes of past guilt, trauma, and unsettled emotions. Both novels dissolve the lines between reality and the supernatural, allowing the past to disturb and disrupt the present. By analysing the interplay between Hauntology and the Fantastic in the selected texts, this thesis shows how Upadhyay’s works fit into the discussion of a broader context of thriller, horror and speculative fiction in Indian Literature.
