Author(s):

Gopa Das Talukdar

Abstract:

Arundhati Roy has dealt with the issues of the subalterns in her novels as well as works of non-fiction. “The Algebra of Infinite Justice” contains essays which address several issues of importance. Her deep concern for socio-political issues is quite evident in the book. Roy takes up several sensitive matters of worldwide importance and deals with them in this acclaimed work. It will not be an overestimation to say that Roy is a true sympathizer of the subalterns. The paper aims to understand the complexities surrounding representation of the r legated section and upholds their concern in her works. Arundhati Roy is an inextricable mix of a writer and an activist. She has rattled the dogmatic world with hard hitting political treatises meant for redressing the concerns of the subjugated populace. But her recognition in the urbane world doesn’t rest on her writing endeavors alone. Her accomplishment as an author is complemented by her works as an activist. She has taken active part in many protest rallies that assisted in creating a more accurate world. Here, an attempt has been made to underscore the concerns of the acclaimed author in subaltern perspective.
