Shakespeare's writings have found resonance in a variety of societies, spanning time, space, and culture. Shakespeare's plays have been adapted and reinterpreted in India, offering a rich field of study that reflects the dynamic interaction between his universal themes and India's unique socio-cultural realities. The goal of this study is to interpret Shakespeare's plays from an Indian perspective by looking at how they have been adapted, localized, and integrated into Indian literature, culture, and theater. Shakespeare's impact in India is examined from a number of angles in this study, with particular attention paid to the language, thematic, and performance-related adaptations. In terms of language, the study examines how his writings have been translated into different Indian languages while preserving the subtleties of the source texts as well as the cultural quirks of Indian languages. Thematic analysis explores how Indian socio-political institutions, historical settings, and philosophical traditions are reflected in Shakespeare's examination of power, love, treachery, and morality. The research also examines stage and screen adaptations, from the traditional Shakespearean productions in Indian theaters to Bollywood reimagining of his stories, where characters, settings, and conflicts are adapted to reflect Indian norms and values. This interdisciplinary approach draws upon literary criticism, theater studies, and cultural theory, offering a comprehensive understanding of how Shakespeare’s work has been continuously recontextualized in India. By focusing on these adaptations and reinterpretations, the research highlights the significance of Shakespeare’s work in the post-colonial Indian context, where his universal themes serve as a mirror to contemporary social realities. Ultimately, this study seeks to contribute to the growing body of global Shakespeare scholarship by shedding light on the intersection of Shakespearean drama and Indian cultural expression, offering new insights into the continued relevance of Shakespeare in a modern, multicultural world.
