Abstract:

Persuasive rhetoric plays a critical role in shaping public opinion, mobilizing communities, and influencing decision-making through public speaking. This study conducts a discourse analysis of selected speeches delivered by influential global leaders to examine the rhetorical strategies employed to persuade and engage audiences. Drawing upon Aristotle’s classical modes of persuasion-ethos, pathos, and logos-this research explores how these elements are integrated into speech structures, language choices, and emotional appeals. The leaders selected for this study include figures from political, social, and humanitarian spheres, whose speeches have had notable societal impact. Through qualitative analysis, the study identifies recurring rhetorical patterns such as repetition, metaphor, narrative storytelling, and the strategic use of pauses and emphasis. It also considers cultural and contextual factors that enhance or modify the persuasiveness of each speech. The findings reveal that effective speakers tailor their rhetorical approaches based on audience expectations, historical moments, and intended outcomes. Moreover, the use of personal anecdotes, inclusive language, and moral authority significantly enhances speaker credibility and emotional resonance. This analysis not only contributes to a deeper understanding of persuasive communication in leadership but also provides practical insights for educators, public speakers, and political analysts. Ultimately, the study emphasizes the enduring power of rhetoric as a tool for influence and highlights the importance of ethical considerations in persuasive discourse. By dissecting the language of leadership, the research offers a framework for analyzing how words can shape realities and inspire collective action.
