Brief life sketch of Ruskin bond

Author(s):

Vandana Srivastav and Prachi Dutt

Abstract:

Ruskin Bond is well known prolific writer with British roots, his love of nature and animals, and he has a pet mongoose named Toto that he often writes about in his stories. Mostly his work relates with mountains and hills of India. He has authored more than hundred books, major writings are “The Blue Umbrella”, “The Room on the Roof,” “Our Trees still grow in Dehra.” He has an impressive collection of hats and enjoys wearing a different one each day, adding a touch of whimsy to his daily routine. Ruskin Bond is a self-professed tea lover and often starts his day with a cup of strong, hot tea, which he believes helps fuel his creativity. He is an avid collector of old photographs and postcards, which he uses as inspiration for his writing and as a way to connect with the past.

Despite being a prolific writer, Ruskin Bond prefers to write his stories in longhand using a pen and paper, eschewing modern technology in favour of a more traditional approach. His contribution to literature has been recognised with prestigious awards such as Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
