The article begins by giving brief introduction about Anita Nair and also set the context of the novel Alphabet soup for Lovers. The article explains about the relationship between Lena and K.K. by highlighting how it is and how it ought to be by using food items like Arisi appalam as metaphors. The article introduces about Shoola Pani and discusses about the relationship between Leema/Lena and Shoola Pani by focusing on how food like laddu becomes a symbol of celebration and also by highlighting how they become close to each other. The article also draws parellel from the novel Mistress.
