Author(s):

Abstract:

The intersection of literature and environmental consciousness has given rise to a fascinating field of study known as Eco-Philosophy. This approach examines how nature and ecological concerns are represented in literary works, shedding light on the complex relationship between humans and their environment. This article explores the eco-philosophies embedded within the poetry of Mamang Dai, an indigenous voice from the Eastern Himalayas, and Gary Snyder, a prominent figure in the American eco-poetry movement.
This paper try to explore their unique perspectives on nature-centric literature, focusing on how they portray wilderness and landscape in their poetry. Through close readings of their poems, the study reveals how both poets, while rooted in distinct cultural and spiritual traditions, express a shared reverence for the natural world and a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of all life.
Dai's work, imbued with indigenous knowledge and animistic perspectives, highlights the importance of traditional ecological practices and critiques the destructive impact of modernization.
Snyder, drawing inspiration from Zen Buddhism and his experiences in the American West, emphasizes mindfulness, direct experience, and the need for a "practice of the wild." The article analyzes key themes such as interconnectedness, animism, mindfulness, and the critique of anthropocentrism, drawing parallels and highlighting divergences in their approaches. By examining their poetry in the context of ecocriticism and drawing upon scholarly interpretations, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between humans and nature, offering valuable insights for fostering ecological consciousness in the contemporary world.
