Abstract:

In today's globalized landscape, English proficiency is imperative for engineering students, facilitating international collaboration, access to cutting-edge research, and enhancing employability in multinational companies. This article examines the significance of English skills in engineering, the challenges students face in acquiring these skills, and effective strategies for improvement. The literature highlights the pivotal role of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses, technology-enhanced learning, and extracurricular activities in bridging the language gap. Despite the heavy emphasis on technical subjects within engineering curricula, the integration of language learning modules and regular proficiency assessments are essential for holistic student development. By adopting these strategies, engineering programs can significantly enhance their students' English proficiency, thereby boosting their global success. The findings indicate that tailored ESP courses, contextualized language modules, and the use of technology are particularly effective in improving English skills. Suggestions for educators include incorporating these elements into the curriculum, leveraging online platforms, and encouraging participation in language-focused extracurricular activities. Additionally, regular assessment and faculty training are recommended to support continuous language development. This comprehensive approach not only equips engineering students with the necessary communication skills but also positions them to thrive in an interconnected and competitive global environment.
