The paper aims to analyse poetic works of Faiz Ahmad Faiz as a progressive writer. The progressive movement's primary concerns were issues of freedom, hunger, poverty, inequality, and social degradation. The progressives attempted to make literature a part of life, declaring the ideas of philanthropy and social justice as their theme. They were largely successful in this endeavour and Faiz was one of these progressives. This paper explores how the social conditions of the subcontinent and the rise of fascism globally and the experiences of the Second World War made Faiz familiar with some basic social and political realities. His early literary fame stemmed mostly from his involvement with the progressive movement. This commitment to the progressive movement drew him from the ‘valley of romance’ to the ‘world of revolution.
