Author(s):

Shweta and Dr. Shashi Goyal

Abstract:

The major emphasis of this paper is on the themes of crime and glamour in Vikram Chandra's Sacred Games (2006). This broad, lively, traditional narrative chronicles the criminal elite's interconnected relationships in contemporary Mumbai. By providing a comprehensive account of the investigators, criminals, schemers, and watchers in this society, the author has crafted a captivating tale that seeks ethical guidance during a period characterized by treachery and avarice. This epic story's core is the confrontation between Sartaj and Ganesh. Sacred Games (2006), while frequently suspenseful, is never reproduced in cinema. While the core of this work remains rooted in the elements of crime fiction, it undeniably contains a substantial amount of criminal activity. The narrative is replete with odours emanating from the backstreets, the vehicular congestion, and the street vendors. It unveils a variety of captivating and multifaceted people, blending elements of mystery, love tale, satire, corruption, and celebration of life in Bombay. This intricately crafted story has a considerable amount of violence, love, loyalty, betrayal, and beauty.  Chandra portrayed the storyline in a manner that conveyed a wide range and diversity of contemporary Indian culture, including nuclear terrorism, partition, the glamorous world, illusory spiritual policies, and the challenges faced by widows. This research paper examines the subtle elements of these features in the novel.
