Author(s):

Innocent Kenechukwu Nweke and Chigozie Enwere

Abstract:

Contrary to hard power, which depends on coercive measures like military force, soft power diplomacy is a crucial part of contemporary international relations. Rather, to influence international perceptions and accomplish foreign policy goals, soft power makes use of political principles, cultural sway, and engaged diplomacy. Using soft power wisely can improve security and development for Nigeria, a country that holds considerable regional influence in Africa. Nigeria's soft power assets are examined in this article along with how they can be enhanced through exploring cultural educational, economic and political advantages of the country. The article also discussed how soft power can be employed in Nigeria’s foreign policy and how they affect development and security.
