Abstract:

The study of contemporary Postcolonial feminist Mahashweta Devi’s Short stories raises the issues of class and gender. It underlines that the society in which Mahashweta Devi works seems to be starkly divided into two classes - the rich and privileged and the not are underprivileged. The woman emerges to be a class of low standard, has been dominated, and does not seem to have attained her freedom even in independent countries. Class conflicts have always been there in history. In fact, neither caste nor class but economic status is all that matters for a person to uphold. Mahashweta Devi’s focus remains on the socio-economic aspects that divide the society on the aspects of disability. She imposed the class struggle in her Breast trilogy in all the ways. Her protagonists “Gangor, Dopdi. and Jashoda” are all hold different distinguished circumstances but the constant tussle that moves on their lives with the ultimate oppression is due to class struggle.

A study of Mahashweta Devi’s Breast stories examines and analyzes how women are victimized due to their gender and class. In this regard, the study will take up the three stories “Breast-Giver”, “Draupadi”, and Behind the Bodice” to analyze how the mechanism of class and gender leads to the double oppression of women.
