Through a brief study of some of Manjit Bawa’s paintings I would like to see how he addresses mythology with a sense of contemporaneity. Whether he is able to escape the grid of associations that comes along with the use of myths and legends. Rather than merely replicating traditional iconography, Bawa reconfigures mythological themes within modern visual and cultural contexts. The works do not rely on myth as static narrative but instead use it as a fluid, symbolic language—open to reinterpretation and resistant to being pinned down by fixed meaning.
